I'm using Outlook 2002 and am trying to insert a contact
(text) into a message. With Outlook 98, there was
an "insert item" in the "Insert Menu" but I can't find the
equivalent in 2002.

I see the "Insert Item" options under the "Insert
Attachments" menu but I don't want to insert the info as
an attachment.

This is such a basic requirement, I'm, sure I'm missing
something obvious.

Thanks,

Steve

You should be able to find the "Item" command on the Insert menu in a
new mail message window. From there you should be able to select the
radio button to insert the contact as text.

The Item command is also there with Word as editor. Click the arrow next to
the Paper Clip on the Toolbar to see it. The bad news is the option to
insert an item as text is disabled when Word is the editor, even when you
change the message format to plain text. Wonder why they did that?

P.S. I notice you're from naptown too. I work a couple of blocks from you.

Insert *Contact* Item *as Text* in Outlook 2003

Is this disabled in Outlook 2003 as well? This is a real pain, as I often want to send email correspondents a person's contact info, and they may not be able to open .vcf files, or I may have info in the Contact item I don't want to pass on (e.g., home phone). I formerly was able to Insert | Item, click Contacts, click the item, and select the radio button As Text, then edit the text version of the Contact appropriately. Now it's grayed out. Is there a workaround?

It doesn't work in Outlook 2004.

The only workaround I have found is to go into the options and deselect Word as the editor. Then open a new message and you can insert the "Text" of a contact. Of course you then have to go back into options and reselect Word. This has to be the dumbest "feature" ever. I do it so often I've created an AutoMate macro to take care of changing back and forth. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
