I have an AMD Ahtlon 1.2 Ghz x86 cpu. I'm not sure if this is a K5 or K6,
has 3D Now and what the cache size is. All I have is the chip with no type
of cover. The chip is on silicon with its pins. I believe the cover, which
usually displays additional info, was taken off for a heat sink. The only
markings on the silicon are L2, L3, L5, L6 and a 5 digit number barely
visible in one corner.

Is there a way to indentify details on this chip?

Thanks,
Brett

Look at the part number on the die (the actual core in the niddle of the
ceramic. This much i can tell you, it's a K7 Athlon 1200MHz CPU
Thundrbird core. the part number should be A1200xxxxx. Compare the
letters to this for more specific info.

How does that page help?

Thanks,

Maybe he's trying to tell you that you don't have
either a K5 or a K6. Think K7.

This is a newsgroup for the K8 processor. You might try

alt.comp.hardware.amd.thunderbird .

There isn't a part number on the cpu.

If you look at the chip here, the front part, that is what mine looks like
without the stickers through:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=15919&item=6713925035&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

So there is very little information on it.

I'll try the Wcpuid program. I don't have a floppy on my laptop but will
have access to one from work. The computer with the cpu currently has no HD
so I'll have to use a bootable floppy.

Thanks on the info. From what I gather, it is a:
K7 Thunderbird
266 FSB
L2 cache (what size)
Socket A/486

Thanks,
Brett

Maybee he thought you might look at the list and see that k7's were the
first in line to have a 1.2ghz speed.
Guess he put too much into it for ya tho and shoulda just said
"It's an athlon"

Yea there is ..
Take some rubbing alk and a cotton swab on a stick and lightly clean it and
you'll be able to read it
if you cant read it then I can only think of one reason and that's cause
it's cook'd to death.

You posted a link to ebay and that one looks like yours you said..
Look at the one they posted (it has writing on it)
