hi there installed this program and i had to do a restore cause it messed
with a folder on my system it was a windows folder and it had hidden files in
it. how do i get it from popping up this program if i do a reinstall of it. i
uninstall it as i could not figure it out thought it might fix it but the
problem stayed after windows defender caused it. i had to do a system restore
and its back to normal. but i want defender so how do i get it to stop
popping up the windows hidden folder i think it was system 32 folder but not
sure i now it was a windows folder as it said contents hidden.

Maybe. The problem with your initial post is lack of details, e.g., what
program are you installing and what are the messages and what program is
issuing the messages (Windows Defender or the program you installed or
other). My best "guess" from your initial post is that you are getting a
warning message from the real time protection component of Windows Defender.
You were probably asked to allow or block the change. If so, and you trust
the publisher of the program, then specify allow. Since the allow is only
temporary, you can suppress the warning messages by adding the full path and
name to the exclude list or modifying the real time protection options
(Tools->Options->......). You shouldn't expect people to play guessing
games. There are many people in this forum who would be more than willing to
help you given a reasonable description of your problem.

no i installed windows defender and after a install the windows system folder
constantly opend all the time. it was the folder for windows system files
that were hidden. it poped up every time i did a restart of my computer after
i installed defender. so i uninstalled defender thanking it would fix it. but
it did not i had to do a restore and now is fixed.

ok here is what i did i installed windows defender and to no avail it keept
poping up a windows system hiden folder. i think it was the actual system
folder for windows as it said contents hidden. i uninstalled defender
thinking maybye it will fix it sence it caused the problem in the first place
but it did not. so i had to do a system restore and that fixed it. but i
would really love to use defender as i here so many great things about it. so
how do i fix this problem so defender will not pop up my system folder all
the time.

Hang on to that restore point. If you were previously using Microsoft
Anti-spyware program, then go to add/remove programs and remove the software.
The installation of Windows Defender (WD) should normally remove the older
software. Just want to play safe. If that is not the case, then let's move
on. I'm speculating on the possibility of a pre-existing problems before the
install of WD. Suggest you go to Windows Update (or Microsoft update) and
apply any maintenance. Would also be helpful to know what level of the
system you are on (Windows XP SP2, Windows 2000, etc. ). Maybe use a
registry cleanup routine (download Ccleaner- free from Internet, uncheck the
toolbar option during the install) and use the Issues tool (may need to do it
several times - no need to save registry updates since you have a good
restore point) until your system shows "no problems". I would also run a
full virus scan and download Ewido anti-malware program (again, free) and do
a full scan. I would then download WD and go back to Windows Update and use
the express option and apply any maintenance (you should see WD definitions
to apply). Keep doing this until you see no more maintenance to apply.
Another possibility related to the opening of the windows folder may be an
interaction of some other software product on your system. If you have some
real time malware scanners or detectors, it would be nice to say so and just
for the record indicate what Anti-virus program or suite you are using and
also the level of WD after the updates. You can find the WD levels by
clicking the down arrow to the right of Help and clicking About. Sorry, I
know this entails doing a lot of things, but your problem (I believe) is
unique.

If you looked at that article I posted, it would seem to make some sense.
Somehow a registry entry could have been corrupted. So doing a system
restore would have corrected the problem. I would still encourage doing what
I had specified and if the original problem still persists, then don't back
out WD or uninstall Ccleaner and Ewido. The registry issue can then be
addressed.

yes when i did that system restore it did fix the issue. im using windows xp
sp2 and i have mcafee virus scanner firewall and privacy service. i also
have spybot and spywareblaster. i usally manual clean my registry of the
programs i uninstall so not sure what would be in there that would have goten
courupted. as i havent installed any new things in a long time. except
defender. the funny thing is this did not happen till i installed defender so
i was speculating it was the caus. But it did not fix the issue till i did a
restore maybe a courpted install did it not sure. i think i might wait till
the full version comes out then try it and see. maybe that will be best.

The decision is yours; however, Ccleaner is a very good product to clean your
registry and Ewido is a highly recommended anti-spyware tool. I use WD,
Spybot, Ad-aware, a-squared and Xoftspy. Ccleaner is not a really aggressive
registry cleaner. I have been burnt by many that are. So I still recommend
that you install Ccleaner and Ewido and do your scans. Validate your system.
Take a restore point and then try WD again. If you encounter a problem,
just fall back to restore which contains Ewido and Ccleaner and you will be
ahead of the game. Again, it's up to you. Good luck.

i installed ccleaner did the reg clen thing and it kiled allot dlls that it
shouldnt have and i had to remerg the reg back ups for my epson stuff to work
as well as some other programs i had. so i think ill stick with my regedit
lol i dont nock the program just that it did me no good killed stuff i had
like my epson printer and my yahoo chat and and my music match .

Sorry. I have never encountered a problem with Ccleaner. I believe you, but
I have an Epson printer and Yahoo Messenger and never any problem. This
just isn't your day (lol). Thanks for trying. Good luck.

thanks for the help i sure hope that when the full program comes out i dont
have the same problem. if i do ill just do a reinstall of windows and such
but for now ill just hang tight till it comes out full peace and have a great
day.

You're welcome. I strongly believe that you will not encounter the problem
with the rebuild approach. Have a good one.

hi mr cat just did a windows reinstall i wiped my hard drive and reinstalled
windows but i think im gona wate till it come out full. i should not have a
problem when it comes out peace and have fun

Let's switch directions from Windows Defender. I recommend a somewhat
different philosophy for handling your registry cleanup procedures. When
installing and testing new software, I simply use restore points. The
original registry is preserved in the restore point and hence no garbage
after a system restore. This isn't always feasible for long term
applications. In that case, after add/remove programs, I simply delete any
of the residual folders that are left over. Now, I let Ccleaner identify and
remove registry entries. Sometimes it will take several passes using the
Issues tool. There still will be some residual stuff left over, but in my
experience it shouldn't hurt performance or overly increase the size of the
registry. There are exceptions to the rule. Some products don't do a very
good job of cleaning up at uninstall time. However, the above approach
should save you time and effort. Unless you have any questions about the
above, I'll end this thread.
Bye.
