Here is my dilemma. I do most of my powerpoint projects on my home PC
which has Office XP. My employers computers all have Windows 2000.
On several of the new presentations I have created in XP the custom
annimations are all messed up when played on my employers Win 2000
machines.

The presentations I have done are fairly simple and don't involve any
features that I didn't have in Office 97. I used the "fly down"
annimation pretty much exclusively. I had set the annimations to work
on 2nd and 3rd levels so everything would fly in a line at at time.

When I play the presentations on Win2000, if the sentences "fly in" at
all, they do all at once.

I am wondering what the best course of action should be. Since most
of my work is going to be played on Office 2000 Powerpoint, I am
thinking about trying to get my hands on a copy of Powerpoint 2000,
and just do all my work with that. My other option would be to get a
copy of Office 2000, then I would maintain total compatibility with
work.

So my questions are 2

1. How do I make Powerpoint XP presentations compatible with
Powerpoint 2000. (I tried to down dave them as a Office 97,97 2000
2002 file)

2. Would Office 2000 be able to coexist with Office XP on the same
PC?

If you just have to display the presentation (as opposed to
creating/modifying it), you might want to consider using PowerPoint 2003
Viewer - its a free download and supports the features of PowerPoint 2002
(XP) as well as PowerPoint 2003. Install the viewer on your employers
computers.

To answer your questions:
1. PowerPoint XP provides a way to switch off additional options. This would
restrict your access to PowerPoint 2000 features only. Select "Tools" |
"Options..." menu item, "Edit" tab, look at "Disable new features" section.

2. Yes, Office 2000 and Office XP co-exist. I have 4 versions of PowerPoint
all installed on my machine. From Office 2000 onwards, each version installs
in its own folder within Program Files\Microsoft Office. So, you don't need
to worry about versions overwriting each other. Just make sure you tell the
installer that you want to retain your existing version. Also, things work
best if you install the older version before the new version.

You can just turn off the new features in PowerPoint 2002 to make your
presentations run in PowerPoint 2000. Go to Tools > Options > Edit and
disable the three items at the bottom. Do this before you begin your
presentation.
