I find that many times boot up will not recognize my hard drives. The
solution is always the same. Power off and reach in and reseat the
cable ends, most usually at the MOBO end, but often at the drive end.
This happens maybe once a week or so, and seems somewhat temperature
and humidity dependent. My imagination? It has happened over the
years with several machines and several cables, MOBOs, and drives.

So I wonder. Maybe if I use 'expensive' cables with better
connectors, this problem will decrease in frequency or maybe even
disappear. Maybe I need better fan-driven airflow over the MOBO? Or
maybe there is another choice.

Do others out there have this trouble?

Can anyone advise me?

Thanks

Thats funny cause one of the systems I work on has the problem the
others dont. The one that does is an old KT133a Asus board with the
T-Bird 1.4 which is known to use a lot of juice. I was wondering if
its a power supply + super power hungry T-bird problem since the
system is using a pretty old Compusa 300watt PS but I havent really
tested it by swapping an old 1 gig athlon in it or a new PS. Id like
to do that to see if that is the cause. If it isnt maybe its just the
way the MB is. I suppose it could be a cable thing but I doubt it
since I havent seen it in any other system which I swapped lots of ide
cables in and out - some which were wonky. The newer now standard 80
ribbon cables seem far more fragile. The old ones were thicker and
more flexible. The new ones Ive noticed some tears and stuff in it and
they kink very easily. I end up sometimes really bending them to get
them out of the way in some spots and have to really stretch them
sometimes because the middle connector sometimes is barely long enough
for the second drive.
