Windows XP Help i have A problem

I currently have a very big problem.
Every time i open more than one internet page at a time an error with my internet explorer occurs. I think this is due to virus. I recently had the W95.hybris.Worm but since i have deleted it th eproblem had not gone away.
Please Help
 
Can you tell me what the error is, or if it gives you any code at all? Does this happen everytime time, without fail? Also, are you using Windows XP?
 
The following error message comes up:
AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2600.0 ModName: msctf.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.0 Offset: 0000a966
The following files are effected:(According to error report)
C:\DOCUME~1\Mick\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER1A.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt

Yes iam using XP
 
Do you have MS Office installed?

This is one suggestion that might fix your problem:

Go to START > RUN
Then type in "regsvr32 /u msctf.dll "
Then OK
Repeat for "regsvr32 /u msimtf.dll"
Then Restart

try running system restore to a time when everything was fine and the sun shined, (make sure to don't go back to when you had the virus, could cause probs)

if that doesn't work, answer these questions for me pls:

(1) Have you recently installed any new apps or windows updates?

(2) Do you regulary update windows?

(3) Do you have the windows CD?

Ian C- When i tried your ideas the first worked fine then the second came up with the following message:

DIIUnregisterSever in Msimtf.dII Failed
Return Code was 0X80004005
 
Techy-How do you perform system Restore to correct date?
I have not installed any recent updates
I do not update windows to often
i do have the windows CDs
 
try this,

insert XP cd -> start -> run -> type "sfc /scannow"

let that run through, reboot and try again.

hello i have a simluar problem wondered if anyone could help me.

Im not very computer literate so bare with me!

i have a problem when i try to close a IE 6 window it wont close but it will minimise. I have to go through task manager to close it and when i click end program the task manager then decides to not responde. after a few seconds it all closes by itself. i think it might happen also when im using other programs not just IE. In the microsoft report it says:

C:\Docume~1\Richard\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER28.tmp.dir00\appcompat.txt

C:\Docume~1\Richard\LOCALS~1\Temp\WER28.tmp.dir00\IExplore.exe.mdmp

i tired following the above but it says the files are missing.

windows xp proffesional, IE 6

Hi Ian,

I had the same problem as Peano. Searched a lot in Google tried all Spyware, Addware, BHO but could not clear that.

At last I copied the error message and searched in Google, was directed to this site. saw your message and tried it. it worked out.

I was amazed how a 2 line code solved the problem that fast.
