help!! i have a ghost

i have a new dell dimension pc running xp, for some unknown reason the pc
starts on it's own during the night, if i try to do anything with it i get a
blue screen crash telling me that windows has shut down to preserve the
system.
any help or advice would be appreciated.

If the pc is "new" there must be a warranty of sorts on it. Call Dell
and ask them what is going on with the pc. Let us know what they say,
I'm intrigued!

yep i do have a warranty, i was looking for a quick fix, i have dealt with
dell for a few years now and i know they will sort the problem if i can't.

This might help: Restart, press F1 or whatever key lets you enter the
BIOS (Setup). Look for Start on LAN, or a similar option, and turn that
option off.
