Help. I get a high pitched sound after I turn on my newly built PC!?

OK here are the specs:

Thermaltake LANBOX Lite VF6000BWS Black Gaming Cube
ColorsIT 550Watt Gold Silent 120mm PSU
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5000+ AM2 - Retail with Fan
AOpen 20x IDE PATA Dual Layer DVD-Rewritable Black, OEM
Value nVidia GeForce 8800GT 512MB DDR3 Dual DVI/TV Out PCI-E,
Hitachi Deskstar 7K160 160GB 7200RPM SATAII 8MB Cache OEM
Asus M2A-VM HDMI Video/Snd Socket AM2 Motherboard
Corsair ValueSelect 2GB DDR2 (2x1024MB) PC5300 Dual Channel Kit

If you give the PC a knock, does the sound stop? If so, it could be one of the fans.

It might help to open up the case and have a listen to find out where the noise is coming from - if you are comfortable with doing so!

Hmmm, nice ... but I don't like that "funny" MB

Are you sure you have connected ALL power cables required, especially to the 8800 vid card ... possible the "noise" is a warning signal.

:user:

Is the machine actually operable? Or does it just sit there and do nothing?

Also is it a constant noise or does it sound like a siren?

Could be a faulty stick of RAM or the RAM may need reseating?

I think what everybody is trying to ascertain is whether we have a noise from the pc's sounder which would likely be a warning of some sort or is it a mechanical noise, such as a faulty fan bearing?

A big clue would be whether it actually goes through POST ok and if it does whether or not it boots into the operating system.

Need more clues Mr :)
