Readers have no idea what "everything" you tried is.
Do you have a sound icon on the taskbar next to the clock? If not, go to:
Start>Control Panel>Sounds and Audio>Volume tab
If yes, have you right-clicked it?
Are you getting any sound out of your PC, do your speakers work?
Are your speakers plugged into the proper speaker jack, not the mike jack?

Whenever I do that, it says this message: "There are no active mixer devices
available. To install mixer devices go to control panel....." And etc. And I
tried that, and it won't work.
Your soundcard does not support active mixer devices. You may have
to look for a new soundcard at either eBay, Best Buy or Circuit City.
They are not very expensive, check around some start as low as $20,
a decent one with most "bells & whistles" will run about $55
One more item I forgot to mention. Go to the manufacturers website of
your soundcard and download the latest drivers compatible with XP. This
may solve the situation.
