Can someone PLEASE explain the darn ruler in powerpoint.
I can't seem to figure out how it works. Thanks Jen

Jen,

OK, I won't admit I know how to use it, but what is the problem you are
having? Bullet points? Tabs?

Hello Jen,

I am going to take a guess at your ruler confusion. The ruler in PPT has "0"
at the center - so all visual measurements radiate from the center. I do not
believe you can change this (I remember looking once, but don't believe I
found a setting to adjust it with). If you turn on Guides, you get 2, one at
the vertical center (0) and one at the horizontal center (also 0). These can
be moved, or you can additional ones by CTRL+Click and drag.

Hope that is helpful. Or give us something more exact to answer and I'm sure
you'll get the info you need.

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for
Updates".]

Hello Jen,

The ruler has two modes of operation: Drawing and Text

Drawing - The rulers zero (0) is always the center of the slide (both
horizontally and vertically)

Text: There is one shared ruler for all text in each text box:
* The zero (0) location will depend on the rotation and language direction.

* Because there is only one ruler per text box this means that
- All Level 1 paragraphs in the text box will have the same indentation
- All Level 2 paragraphs in the text box will have the same indentation,
etc.
+ Tab stops are the same for all paragraphs in the same text box

In either mode the ruler displays in units of measurement set in the
"Region and Language Options" dialog.

If it's important to you (or anyone else reading this message) PowerPoint
provide additional ruler functionality, don't forget to send your feedback
(in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions)
