I'm not getting anywhere with this!! PLEASE HELP

I have recently upgraded to Microsoft XP Office which comes with FP 2002 ...
have had various problems with sites I've created in 2k - however...it seems
to be getting worse.

Today I opened one of my sites and when I save and close the page after
making changes, and then reopen it - it will come up with various bot tags
that I've not put into it - and the tables are all screwed up - also there
are 'extra' images in my 'included page' table ... so...decided to just
start a brand new web and start over....

NOW ... when I go to File/open/Web and then just try to click on create
EMPTY web - I get this error!!!!

An error occurred accessing your Fp web files. Authors - if authoring
against a web server, please contact the webmaster for this server's site.
Webmasters - please see the server's system log for more details.

what is the deal? should I just go back to 2k???

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

pam

click (in FrontPage) help/ detect and repair. restart your computer and see
if that helps.

HTH

Shut down FrontPage.
Clear the Internet Explorer temporary internet and history files.
Then click Run > Search and do a search for *.tmp files
and delete what it finds
Then search for *.web files and delete what it finds.
Restart FrontPage and see if it's better.

nope, didn't help - still get the same error - any other ideas???

Pam

ok, now this is weirder...

I decided to change the location of where the web would be located, so
changed the default of :http://localhost/website name to c:/My
Webs/mywebsites ... and it had no problems - opened a new website at that
location

any idea why all of the sudden it is not wanting to use the localhost site??

thanks
Pam

maybe one of the "pros" will have something. you may want to uninstall and
reinstall the program, but other than that I'm out of tricks ;-)

are you running windows xp pro?

that worked...

ok, one other question (well..at least for now)

WHERE should I be initially making my websites? from http://localhost? or
under My Documents/MY Webs ?? or does it matter?

Well, actually it worked for a minute - then I deleted the *web and *.tmp
files and rebooted... now I'm back to the same error :

Pam,

It does make a difference on if you use http://localhost or c:\my
documents\my webs.

When you access a site as http://localhost, you are access the site via a
web server and full access to the FP design-time and run-time version of the
FP extensions.

When you access a site via a drive letter, you only have access to the FP
design-time extensions.

FP webs at http://localhost are running under the FP SE and IIS
- make sure IIS is started and the FP Se are installed and activated

Or work with disc based webs like c:\MyWebs\mywebsites .

how do I know if they are running?
I did go to the snap in and click Actions/restart...but its still not
working correctly
should I just design all my websites under mywebs and forget localhost?

Pam

If you can access your web using a http://localhost or http://machinename and use Tools Server, the FP SE are installed and running

If you don't want to test any of the FP tools that use the FP SE you can create all your webs as disc based
- but I would recommend you create them as top level webs in say C:\Myweb1, C:\Myweb2 etc
- you are not limited to the My Webs folder for disc based webs
