I thought I was being clever with my limited knowledge of
Outlook and created a rule for a couple of junk mail
messages - trying to tell outlook that when that
particular address came in ... it should permanently
delete that e mail ----- oh no! Next click of the button
and it gobbled up all 500+ e mails that I had in my in
box....

I have tried system restore - I have tried everything - I
cant get the damn rule off - now I am receiving e mails
and before I can read them - they are being deleted - I
cant receive anything ...

Please help!

System restore will have no affect on Outlook (as you discovered).

Why not try to turn off Outlook to go get mail. Then while it's not
collecting mail, go delete the bad rule. Then turn back on Outlook's
mail collection capability.

Read in Outlook's Help about deleting rules. Suggest if you need more
help, check with the newsgroups dedicated to Outlook.

Until you have sorted out your problem - a couple of suggestions

1. Set Outlook to leave messages on server, or

2. Use Outlook Express temporarily to get your mail
