Dave

I have a copy of Internet Explorer 5.5 (although the
product id is for 6.0). I cannot surf to secure sites
(expedia, bank sites) because my browser is not accepting
cookies. I've tried changing all of the security settings
many times to no avail. I've deleted cookies, etc. There
is no firewall. I think my ie is corrupted. I am unable
to uninstall it because it isn't showing up on the
add/removed programs list. I cannot install 6.0 over it,
because the install continues to fail over and over, and
asks me to reboot the computer. What do I do???

Open your browser and go to HELP -> About Internet
Explorer .. check if the cipher strenght is 128 bit . If
it is less than 128 bit . Contact your manufacturer to re-
install the browser. At the same time go to Control
Panel .. Double click on internet options ...Click on the
PRIVACY tab.... click on Default Button and then towards
the left on that same window , scroll the slider bar
down .. then click on Apply and then click on OK.

The cipher strength is 128 bit. I'be already adjusted the
security, privacy settins several times to no avail. My
concern is that ie is corrupted or windows me is
corrupted. How can I take the ie 5.5 off my pc? Its not
listed on the add/removed programs.
