Yep I've got the e-mail virus. Today I got the bug after staying clear for
so long

At present I am getting 200 e-mails an HOUR saying infected

Tried to install AVG and all I get is kernel error message when it tries to
run at startup

Any ideas or other products you people know about would be appreciated

I am quite sure the virus protects itself against installation of antivirus
software, so it generates the kernel message. You have to get rid of the
virus first and then install antivirus software. One way to get rid of it
is at:

Once you have done that, install an antivirus program, immediately update
it, scan your computer and keep it updated.

Hope this helps.
