I turned on my moniter this morning after restoring my system last night. When the power came back up, I got the following message
Warning: backup all files and replace your hard disc drive immediately: a failure may be imminent
I have absolutely no idea what to do about this. It tells me that I can press f1 to continue or f2 to enter setup. My biggest problem is that I wouldn't know what to do after entering setup. I have never needed to do anything technical with this computer. It's a sony viao w/ windows xp, but lately I've been having all sorts of problems with it. I tried recently to download some updates that the windows xp site said were important, but after I did that, I could not stay on the internet more than one page. It disconnected me every time I refreshed or changed pages. I really need help here.

try running scan disk and see what happens. It maybe a hard drive failure for sure. Or it could be something as simple as a virus. Do you have anitvirus running?

Hi sulcatas3,

Sounds like a hardware problem.

Go to recovery console and type chkdsk /r
