Hello,

I just got a new PC with XP Home and want to play some
games I had for my old 98 machine. They won't run because
when they're started they say "Won't run on NT". I found
the "compatibility" settings and can set it to windows 95
or 98 but they still think it's NT and won't run. The
games in question I've tried so far that have done this
are Powerslide and Carmaggeddon 2.

My Need for Speed 3 doesn't work either but that doesn't
complain about NT, it just does nothing at all, but
*might* be related to this. I've got someone at EA support
looking at this at the moment though.

Cheers for any help,

Phil.

Some old games require Compatibility Mode starting with the installation. I
would uninstall what's there, then insert the CD in the drive but don't let
it run. Go to Start/Run/Browse and locate the install.exe or setup.exe file
on the root of the CD, right-click it and go through the Compatibility
process so it believes it is installing on the operating system for which it
was designed. After the install, do the same process with the link you're
going to use to launch the game before you run it the first time.

XP *is* NT. Specifically, NT 5.1.2600.

Try running setup in compatibility mode (yes, the game setup.)
