Help - frequent intermittent resets - Nvidia?

Windows XP home has barely booted up before it resets or
hangs. It makes the computer almost unusable and I am
considering selling XP and going back to ME. I think the
problem is caused by any Nvidia related graphics card I
put in - if I disable the card and run with not-so-good
graphics, the computer hardly ever resets itself. I say
hardly ever - thre are occasions, but there is definately
a difference between having the card enabled and not, so
don't assume that its not related. I've recently changed
to an internal modem as the usb ones are known for pulling
too many volts and causing instability, but this hasn't
helped at all. The only other possibility is the memory.
The only thing is, a friend also has the same problem.
They too have an NVidia card but theirs is in a brand new
Pentium 4 with brand new memory and everything. I have an
AMD700 box of random bits, 640mb Ram, compaq motherboard.

If someone can help me it would be more than appreciated.
I have had this problem for a long time and I find my
computer almost unusable. I am at my wits end. I bought XP
for its "stability".

640MB ?? Then, unless you have five 128's, you have a
mix of module sizes and perhaps characteristics. Find out:
Download "ctspd" from http://www.heise.de/ct/ftp/ctspd.shtml
(the download link is about halfway down the page).
Also, you might run a few cycles of "memtest86", downloadable
from http://www.memtest86.com You should get zero errors.
