Grace,
I'm assuming that you are using Outlook Express since you are speaking
of Identities. Outlook Express stores its Identity information in the
registry at the following location.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities
Each of the nasty looking numbers you see here is an Identity. If you know
the name of the Identity you created, click on each folder here until you
see it listed on the right hand side, beside the Username value. Once you
know which one it is, note the value of the User ID field. It should look
something like {E8F2A969-165A-425E-B209-0E0A4B59C403}. Search for this
folder on your hard drive. This is where the information stored in that
identity is kept. To work around a missing password, simply create a new
identity as you have done in the past, and do an import of mail from this
location into your new Identity. Take the following steps to do the Import
- Click File -> Import -> Messages -> Choose your version of Outlook
Express, and click Next
- Put the bullet point beside the choice "Import Mail from a OE store
directory"
- Click the browse button, and locate the Outlook Express folder underneath
the {E8F2A969-165A-425E-B209-0E0A4B59C403} type folder you found above.
- Click Next through the rest of the choices and your mail should now be
imported into this new Identity.
Please let me know if you have any difficulties or any further questions.
