Hi Everyone, I posted a few days ago when I was on the road and unable to use Remote Desktop Connection. Last I did was to make the workstation use a static ip as Bill suggested
1) IP address
2) subnet mas
3) default gateway (the router's IP address
4) DNS server (ISP's DNS server addresses

Now, when I use remote desktop connection on computer#2 behind the router I connect, but this I had done before, I will have to find another public internet connection to really test it. My question here is that even though it says internet zone on the bottom right corner of the explorer windows (as opposed to Local Intranet) is it really a LAN connection or the same type of internet connection I'd get from anywhere else? like I say I achieved these connections before, but when on the road I have never connected

Secondly, when I use the address bar to type in my ip address I connect to the router set up page. Before I had to type the ip address like: xx.xxx.xx.xxx:8080 (which still works) to connect to the router management. I thought typing your ip address in the address bar allowed you the same type of connection as remote desktop? I also tried replacing :8080 with :3389 (as that is the port that is forwarded) but nothing happens then

Thirdly, I know that typing the computer name in the address bar connects easily on the local inranet, is this all that is for. I was under the impression that somehow this could be used over an internet connection. I guess that doesn't make sense though

And lastly, this may go hand in hand with number 3, but is there also a way to connect on the internet using the address bar to enter http://computername/tsweb ?

When I use remote desktop do I enter the ip address, or computer name

OK, bear with me, I have a lot to learn, last thing I promise. My router is a Linksys WRT54G and I have the set up like this

Internet Connection Type: Static IP, all though I have toggled this to DHCP and it doesn't seem to make a difference

Network Addrtess Server Settings (DHCP): Disable

Port Range Forwarding: start 3389 end 3389 protcol-Both ip address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx enabled
(as above what do I do if I want to connect to the other workstation behind the router. Can I have port 3389 forwarded to 2 separate ip addresses at the same time? Then 2 boxes would be enabled
For some reason I have an option to forward port 80 (currently disabled) can i dlete this? What is port 80 for

Remote Router Access: enabled management port :8080 use https:? What do I do here. Currently not checked. UpnP - enable

I know that's alot, but I want to make sure next time I hit the road i can use all my expensive equiment the way i planned on

Thanks
Mar

Ignore the reference to Internet Zone... This is one of the Internet
Explorer security zones. You will be in the Internet Zone almost all
the time irregardless of where you are connecting to.. You will
change to one of the other zones whenever you browse to a site that
was added into one of these zones.

If you are using the Web client, leave the computer name blank.

You won't be able to use that address ( in your last statement). You
need to specify http://publicipaddress/tsweb to connect (replacing
publicipaddress with your public internet address). You can also use
a dynamic DNS service (like www.dyndns.org) to assign a more friendly
internet domain name to your public ip address.

No, you cannot forward port 3389 to two or more different computers..

Port 80 is for IIS.. This is what you should forward to get your 4th
question to work...
