Michael

I have a second hard drive that I can format and back up to but I get a
message that say's in effect that there are restrictions in effect on this
computer and to
see the administrator.
A few weeks ago I backed up my primary hard drive on this drive and then hid
the drive now that I want
to access it I cannot see what is on the drive and I forgot (old age) how I
hid it and how to revele it again.
I am looking for guidence in removing the restriction so I can view what is
on the drive
Thanks
Mike

I was unable to fix per your instructions .However I found a work arround
and that was changeing the drive letter to the next avalable drive letter
(ie) H . I was than able to see the contents of the drive. To check this I
than changed it back to F and got the same problem back. I have changed it
back to H now. Any help on how to show F will be appreciated.
thanks
Mike

Tweak UI for XP perhaps? One of the options in that program is to show/hide
drives. Under "My Computer> Drives," check a drive letter to show a drive.
Uncheck to hide it.

To resolve this issue, you need to provide full details about
your PC, e.g.
- Number of disks
- Number of partitions on each disk
- Type of each partition (FAT32, NTFS)
- List of networked drives
- List of USB drives
- What you mean when you say "I was then able to see the contents"
- What you mean when you say "I have changed it back to H:"
- Verbatim error messages
Reports such as "a message that says in effect that there are
restrictions in effect" are far too vague for a proper problem
analysis.

In other words, give us a blow by blow account of what you
do and what you see, e.g.
- Launched Disk Manager
- Saw disk 2, partitions 1 and 2
- Changed the drive letter of partition 2 from F: to E:
- Launched My Computer
- Cannot see drive E:

Problem solved.
I use a program called fresh ui from fresh devices under fresh ui
windows explorer
drive settings
restrict drive access
prevent access to drive F was checked
uncheced this option and drive F now visable.
thanks all

Thanks for posting back with how you resolved this.

Figured it was TweakUI or similar. Reason: To hide a drive without software
of this type takes more steps than checking/unchecking a box. You would
have remembered if you had hid the drive without tweaking software.

I have the same problem on Windows 2000, my 2nd disk F:\ doesn't show in "My
computer" or in Defender, I don't have the program called ui ? any ideas for
an old chap like me. Also you if someone comes up with an answer can I turn
off Defender to see their any downloads/programs that I might wish to save
before Defender starts deleting them HELP!!
