HELP!

All of the files on one of my hard drives were deleted
when I converted from FAT32 to NTFS (using convert.exe).

Any way to restore them? Why did this happen?

Thanks

Only reason I could think this might happen is if the checks in convert
that your hard drive had problems failed, and then those hard drive
problems caused the changes made by convert to affect more than just the
file system.

If the files are truly gone the only way to restore them is from backup.

However because of the checks in the application the chances that the
files are really gone is extremely small. Can you connect the drive to
another PC that is running Windows XP? If so, do that and take a look at
the contents of the drive to see if you can see anything there.

I would say that your files would still be there. Go to
www.RecoverMyFiles.com and download their trial program. Search your drive
to see it you can find deleted files. The trial version will allow you to
see the contents of the files. You may have to go to the 'OPTIONS' setting
and under 'SEARCH' select 'SECTOR LEVEL SEARCH' (the technical explanation
is that it is probable that the conversion of the drive from FAT32 to NTFS
moved the cluster boundaries.)

Good luck.
