Not long ago I lost the ability to access my computer's Help And
Support, System Information, and System Restore features due to a quirk
in another program that somehow involves the marscore.dll . After a long
process during which I attempted to correct the problem with the help of
computer forums and Google, I finally had to accept that these features
were probably lost for good.

However, I managed to locate a replacement program for System Restore
(ERUNT), and the System Info stuff I can find with the help of programs
such as WinPatrol and Process Explorer. The last one, "Help and
Support", has been more difficult, if not impossible, to replace. Is
there a freeware program that could be used as a replacement? I'm hoping
there is something I can download and access offline without having to
sift through Microsoft's site every time I need computer "help and
support", but my guess is that I am asking too much. Doesn't hurt to
check around, though.

Thanks...ncSkeet

Some time ago I also lost the Help and Support in XP after installing Easy
Cleaner. However, a file to fix this known problem was available on the Easy
Cleaner site. I'm not sure if it's still there so here is the text of the
file which is called FixXPHelp.reg

(Each group above is one line)

Just copy the above into Notepad and make sure each line is joined up, save
as FixXPHelp.reg
and run it.

I hope this works.

Thanks, but that's one of the first things I tried. I think between what
I was able to find on Google and the help I was able to muster up in
several forums I have pretty much exhausted all avenues. Now I'm left
with hopefully finding a replacement, which not surprisingly doesn't
look good for the "Help" stuff.

Have you thought of maybe trying the CHM to HTML route?
