In Need of Help

I was attempting to combined two partitions and during that process I
converted my C:\ from basic to dynamic...then formatted it like a genius. Now
my comp is completely wiped, I have all the disks that came with my Dell
Laptop, but does anyone know if I'll be able to recoup anything (files, pics,
etc) from the laptop? or are they gone for good......i really don't want to
sleep on the couch for a week so anyone's help is greatly appreciated

Successful data recovery, if even possible, under these circumstances
should be left to a professional outfit. It's bad enough formatting the
hard drive but also altering the file tables by creating the dynamic
disk only adds insult. And it is very amateurish to even attempt the
merger of partitions without even thinking of backing up the important
files. There has been worse punishment than being shown the couch for
failing to have a functioning backup policy.

Get your pillow and blanket.

I knew I'd get alot of banter from this, but do you have a reccomendation of
a particular company to use? Not exactly as easy as going into the YellowPages

I have used this with alot of success.
http://www.r-studio.com/

R-Studio NTFS

- recovers files from NTFS, NTFS5 (created or updated by Windows
2000/2003/XP/Vista) and Ext2FS/Ext3FS (Linux) partitions on local disks. For
demonstration purposes R-Studio NTFS recovers files less than 64KB from FAT
(FAT12, FAT16, FAT32), HFS/HFS+ (Macintosh), and Little and Big Endian
variants of UFS1/UFS2 (FreeBSD/OpenBSD/NetBSD/Solaris) partitions on local
disks and over the network (including NTFS partitions).

or you might still be able to recover your partitions.
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download
click on this link on the site : Windows NT/XP/2000/2003/Vista, zip
*and read up.*

also the program is on the ultimate boot disk: http://www.ubcd4win.com/
it is a lot easier to build than it used to be..

The conversion from Basic to dynamic is not a good one, change it back to
basic, also use NTFS if you are using FAT32. Dynamic has some issues with the
OS losing access to the data if changes are made to the OS.
I suggest you get acronis True Image for a backup plan, and an external
USB/SATA drive for cloning. an extra HD for backups.

Changing it back to basic requires a new partition and it destroyas all the
data on the drive...be careful when you offer that advice.

You can try to recover your files with Easy File Undelete software:

http://www.munsoft.com/EasyFileUndelete/

It has special option to recover files from reformatted drives and
uses unique modern algorithms to recover files that other software
either recovers incorrectly or is unable to detect.

Where is the advice and information you should have offered about software
that can "unformat" the drive ?

regards, Richard
