As I loaded Windows Defender, the latest version, I am having trouble to
update.
I get "The program can't install definition updates
Error found: Code 0x80070003"
Although the Defender loads properly, it tries to update for some time and
then shows up with this error. I am having no other problems in updating
Windows.
I am using XP Pro, with IE7. Is there any download place to download the
Defender updates manually? Is there any easy way to solve this problem ?

As I tried to update through Windows Update
it was unable to update and posted the following -

Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB915597 (Definition 1.15.2233.6)
*Failed.

I am in deep trouble !

Not necessarily. Check again in a day or so and see if this persists. Does
AutoUpdate work for other items?

Yes, with one exception. The .NET stuff is giving me
trouble. All other stuff is updating OK. I will definitely
wait couple of days. Hope it works.

If you have trouble with a specific update, try running just that update by
itself.

If an update repeats, ask for advice--generally, downloading the update as a
separate file from the Microsoft download center, and installing it yourself
manually may help.

If you can do a "check for updates" within Windows Defender (help, check for
updates)--and get a message that no updates are available--that's a clean
bill of health. If you always get an error message from that check, then we
need to do something more.

The problem of update the Defender
has been solved. The Defender actually
had nothing to do, but the PC hardware
itself was the culprit. Let me explain –
the processor of this PC is a merely P400,
2.8 Ghz, but the Motherboard has a range of
CPU Frequency 100 Mhz to 350 Mhz (MSI 648F
Neo board). It may be because of the lower
frequency DRAMs I have loaded. I had the CPU
multiplier set for 133 to work at 400 MHz.
That was the trouble for instability, which
gave me lots of other troubles, besides
'Defender'. I was having problems of
instability and all on a sudden shutdowns.
Now I have the CPU frequency multiplier
lowered at 120, which sets the motherboard
DRAM frequency at 360 ~ Mhz, and the PC is
behaving wonderful. Thank you all so much.
Moral of the story, PC hardware can give
you more scary headaches than PC software.

Bill,

I have posted the full story, about
what happened on my PC. and what
was the culprit. Appreciate and
thank you for your time and advice.
