Help! Damn AIW Radeon

Got my new M/B and HDDS so it was time to build new computer.

Installed WinXP
Installed latest catalyst (a few days ago - full package with capture
drivers)
Installed DirectX9
Installed WMEncoder 9
Installed latest MMC.

TV seems to work however it crashes every time I try to capture video.
No program can capture video or it crashes (seems to start OK but as soon as
you try to change any settings it freezes).

Help!

This is a vanilla system, why are ATI drivers so crappy that won't work when
installed on a damn fresh PC?

Thousands of ATI cards running great but when yours locks up it MUST be
those crappy drivers. Did you ever even consider that you really have no
idea what your doing and should be flipping burgers at McD's?
 
No, because I'm hired as an IT product expert by one of the largest
retailers, and seem to be very popular at work : )
 
Err? How would one do that?

Start a project in a capture util, Open the settings to select source, frame
size, Hit ok - Crash. If you even get that far.

The amazing part is I've just installed the drivers on a vanilla system that
had hardly any apps at the time - amazing how it can screw up in that
situation.

Oh BTW, I don't hear of that many success stories with AIWs. Seems that when
you can get them to work they work, but it's a case of a lot of luck to get
them to work.

you weren't very clear...but now I see your just not of mind to get it working... everyone seems to avoid saying its user
error...when VERY often it is... I do not have any such problems....but then you may have a VIA board and haven't updated any
drivers for years etc etc...
 
What part of this equation don't you understand?

New OS.
All updated drivers - downloaded them all in the last fortnight.

Installed AIW Cataloyst Drivers and MMC

Dead.

Where is the user error? I've havn't had time to DO anything in the
applications, they just crash when you hit record!

And if you want to know: nForce2 chipset with the latest drivers and BIOS.

MMC won't capture either (hit record and the app freezes). Is that fix only
for people who are having troubles capping with a 3rd party app?

Yes, the AVBISurf.ax filter only crashes 3rd party apps, not MMC.
If MMC freezes as well, you've got a more serious problem.
