I have Windows XP Home Edition.

I tried to download Service Pak 2, have no clue if it worked, I doubt it.

I also download Trend Micro Antivirus Program.

So what happened? I lost my c: drive. I got this error:

C:\Progra~1\Toolbar\TBPS.exe Windows cannot access the specified device,
path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the
item. AUGGHH

So then I went to "my computer" and Freakin' nothings there! Well...except
some dumb idiot Star Wars Game or something. EVerything is gone.

Can anyone help me? I have no clue what to do. I am "not" a computer wiz,
so if you can help me, talk in very very layman's terms LOL. I can't
believe this happened. I"m so frustrated and upset. I tried re-starting the
puter, that didn't work.

Please respond if you can help me, thanks!

Okay, downloading and installing are not the same thing..did you install
it? If you could be specific about how you tried to download ( install?)
what happened, did you get any odd screens or error messages//details are
helpful. Do you have xp home or pro? What anti virus are you running? Do
you have printer/fax/more than one hardrive/cd burner/cd rom/
There are a couple of ways to determine if it's installed. The easiest is
to see what color the progress bar is when you first start your
computer..green is Sp1, blue is SP2.
What do you mean that restarting your computer didn't work? It wouldn't
start? or restarting it resulted in the same problems, i.e can't access C
drive, etc.
When you go to 'My Computer' you should see all your drives, local C, cd
rom, as well as document folders, etc..but the only thing you have listed is
a Start Wars game?
My suggestion would be to start your computer in safe mode, then do a system
restore picking a point just prior to the attempt at installing Sp2.
The thing about installing SP2 is you really need to read up on the 'what to
do before installing Sp2' information that's readily available on the MS
Update site, or Google it.

To get to Safe Mode,
restart your computer.
as soon as the screen turns black tap the F8 key repeatedly until you see
the 'advance startup options' Using the up/down arrows on your keyboard,
select Safe Mode..you will be prompted to confirm that you want to start in
that mode, yes you do.
Then, once in safe mode click on your name on the welcome screen..you'll see
one user name called 'administrator..don't use that one.
Now, to do the system restore, go to the start button,>all
programs>accessories>system tools> system restore.
You will have the choice to create a restore point, or restore your computer
to an earlier time. Pick that. Them you'll notice that certain dates are in
Bold letters and numbers..those are the dates that you can go back to, the
others have no restore point. When you click on them, they will have limited
information as to what was created or installed on that date. Look for the
one that references SP2. Pick the very next point BEFORE the Sp2
installation..if you don't see a reference to Sp2, still pick a point BEFORE
the attempt to install Sp2

Here is one link to a pre install of SP2 list..I wouldn't do #28..

Thanks for the help and I'll try to be more specific as I have more
information. Okay, I installed SP2 and Trend Micro Anitvirus yesterday.

I kept getting pop-ups of "real-notification" from Trend Micro, the message
that constantly comes up is:

Incident name: C:\WINDOWS\system32\csrss.dll
Detection name: ADW PURITYSCA.Y

Ok, I have "my computer" files, it's okay, an error on my part, I thought
they were all gone, but they aren't.

My computer was running great until I installed SP2 and Trend Micro and the
Pop-up above came up and ever since, my puter is running slow. It looks like
I will have to delete the infected files but I read the directions and I'm
not sure if I'm supposed to do everything on the list in Safe Mode or just
part of it. Says I have to also may need to restore, edit , the registry and
I'm not sure if I do that in Safe Mode or not. I really have no clue what
I'm doing, I'm afraid I'll mess up my computer LOL

So.... I don't know if it's the infected file messing things up or if it's
SP2, or both!

Not sure if the installation of SP2 worked or not, I know it tooks HOURS to
install. I haven't checked to see yet.
