Hey,

i need urgent help, i have finally finnished building my computer, and i can get nothing on the screen - what shall i do?

that is all the info i can provide, the fans all start up, the power & HDD lights come on, but i see nothing

(sepcs in my sig)

Any suggestions?

KGB

any beeps?

connect up the internal speaker
and then see if u get nay beeps.

Reseat the Memory, check all IDE Connections, reseat your CPU, Reseat your AGP Card,

but like i said first check for how many beeps u get, then look into ur logbook to point u into the right direction!

In my experience its been the CPU or the mobo.

Exactly what PSD said :)

I've had this problem a few times and running through those few things has always fixed it, as long as everything has been compatible.

I tried a differant motherboard, and it ran fine and i could see the BIOS on screen.

Is this likely to be a dud MoBo, or the motherboard is incompatable with the components?

I checked compatability with everything, but i dont know what is wrong :(

Thanks,

KGB

sorry KGB but so far from what I have read im going to point into the direction of your mobo!:(

i once did the same as u gt a new mobo but it was faulty so had to send it back i was very diisheartened so much that i never dealt with a mobo again! that was December 2003! :(

u didnt mention anything about the BEEPS?

yeah, sorry, i dont hear any beeps with the speaker.
-----------

With this MoBo, i put the CPU in with NO heatsink and left it for 20 secconds, and it didnt get a tiny bit hot.

with the test MoBo, i put the CPU in with the heatsink and after 14 secconds it was warm/hot

--------------

Does that sound like a dud mobo?

Cheers,

KGB

why did u do this for??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

anways if this CPU worked in another MOBO looks like the CPU is fine.
but just cuz u thgt it didnt get hot in ur new cpu i dont think u can point in the mobo direction from just this.

its cuz u dont get an output on the screen and that u didnt get any sound which strongly suggests to me that its the mobo.

have u tried another CPU in this new mobo? try this if u can this will definetly tell u the roots of the prolblem KGB

and just out of curiosisty where did u get your mobo from? what site?

I dont have another Processor to test with, this is the only P4 in the house.

I got it from Areia (i cant remember the spelling) do you know what i meen?
--

i have now been through the mobo's manual, and in the troubleshooting part it says "make sure all jumper settings (such as CPU Speed...) are correct"

I cant find any jumper pins on the mobo, does it meen in the BIOS?

I have read through the manual and have found nothing

KGB

oh Aria.co.uk got you

i think it means the FSB on the mobo it should be somewhere look v closely,
listen what cpu fan are u usuing?
can u try using another one? i remember i had a thernaltake quiet fan and it woulndt allow bios to come up cuz it was below or above a certain speed!

bottom line if u cant get into bios then how can u change the settings?

havent got another fan,

i am just gonna ger a replacement. (this is why i wanted to go with dabs, they replace things fast)

There is no mention of Jumper settings in the manual

cheers,

KGB

your welcome.
umm see if u can get some1's cpu fan first.

ive not dealt with aria

good luck

Have you reset the BIOS to its defaults? You might have some incompatible components in there if reseating everything doesn't help.

Have you tried with no PCI cards in there?

Housten, We have lift-off!

I found the problem, i was using an old PSU, that does not have ATX12v socket, my MoBo needs it to boot

the computer is finnished (i bought a 500w PSU)

Thanks for all your suggestions,

KGB

Just as an afterthought:

Never, ever, ever, power up a CPU without a heatsink. Intel CPU's aren't quite so bad, but if that was an AMD CPU and it started, it probably would have lasted all of ten seconds before burning out spectacularly.

An Intel chip may have lasted a few seconds longer.
