I'm running win2000 w/service pack 4 and was attacked on
the internet. My norton firewall seemed like it worked, but
then the internet explorer started off on its own. I shut
down and upon reboot the ie tries to autodial immediatley.
Ran norton antivirus and fixed some files, it did not list
a virus. I can not get on the internet to get the latest
update, if there is one. No, it was not fun to here that
poor us robotics modem clicking away as nortons took about
1.5 hrs to do its thing. Any help?

You might have spyware or such and need to run something like AdAware. You should be
able to configure your firewall to block and maybe identify the process. Otherwise
you need a port mapper like TCPView [small download] which will show what process is
connecting to the internet. The process properties will show complete path to the
file. It is possible that your antivirus is trying to upgrade itself depending on how
you have updates configured. --- Steve
