HELP! CD Drive Not Accessible

Apparently, I posted this by accident in a MAC group....so hope I get it into
a Windows group this time!
I have a Dell desktop with a CD R/W drive (D:\) and a DVD R/W drive (E:\).
Two months ago, I started having a problem. When trying to access the D:\
drive, I would get the message "Drive not accessible..." When putting a CD
with known good data in the E:\ drive, opening the drive shows the CD to be
blank.
I "fixed" the problem by completely uninstalling Yahoo! Music. Both drives
worked just fine for a couple of weeks, until just a few days ago. The
problem has come back...exactly the same as before.
I did install Adobe CS3 as well as Adobe Lightroom about a week ago, and it
was shortly after I installed this software that I noticed (within a few
days) that the problem reemerged. So I removed both pieces of software, but
that did not help.
The strange thing is, if I reboot in Safe Mode, I can access both D: and E:
drives with no problems!
I've tried various things, such as clicking the "Enable CD Recording" box
on the D: drive, but that simply reverse the problems. I've tried getting
into Device Manager and changing the device transfer mode (PIO to DMA if
available and vice versa), and that doesn't seem to help.
I'm at my wit's end! If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks,

Try going to run, type:regedit In regedit,expand:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,software,
microsoft,windows,set-up,open source path.L.click on the cdrw listed,go to
edit,
modify, add the dvd rw like it shows for other player,if dvd shows,do the same
but add cdrw (add letter as shown in my computer),exit when thru,do the same
for other cdrw or dvdrw shown,if adding to,isnt available, then create a new
Dword or sz string as current lists but with new device, youre simply adding
new
device 2 places, close out regedit when thru..

HI.

I can get through HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SOFTWARE, MICROSOFT, WINDOWS, but I do
not see "set-up" or "open source path." Unless these are commands of some
sort. There is a "setup" under WINDOWS, Current Version, but I don't see
where to go from there.

I didn't mention: I have XP Home Edition, SP2. Don't know if that makes a
difference in these particular registry values.

Any clarity you could provide would be greatly appreciated....thanks so much
so far!
