help cant run disk clean up

win xp pro
can run it ok on all drives except main drive C:
it stops responding almost instantly and the pc runs slow afterwrds until a
reboot
i need to clean up temp files etc as i am low on disk space
any idea how to repair it or make it work again?

Don't bother, download Windows TuneUp Utilities from

Cnet and try the clean up feature off this program. Good
luck, usually this is a type of program interference

Do it in safe mode.

Enter safe mode by hitting F8 before your windows screen comes up. Select
"Safe mode".
Then you can defrag on all drives.
