I have a multimedia educational cd (teaching of science) which can be
launched and navigated using IE program. There is no problem about this.

When i explore the contents (files) in the cd, i see some files with .htm
extensions and some with .html extensions. They are small size files of 1kb
to 3 kb, all labelled as html doc. under file type. When i click the .htm
files, eg. lessonstart.htm, IE launches the cd and the lessons alright.

But when I click the .html files, IE opens a window but nothing shows except
for a tiny square box with a red x at the top left corner. The reason i want
to open these .html files seperately is because they contain specific
activity sheets which i want to print out. (One such file is attached
ere - Act. Sheet Unit 1 Lesson 01).

What can i do? What is the difference between .html and .html files?

Would appreciate any help.

In IE go to Tools...Internet Options...Advanced tab, scroll down to the
Security section, check the box by "Allow active content...." in the first
two entries, click Apply, click Okay. Do this when using that CD, and then
uncheck them to increase your security when done.

Thanks, but these two entries have already been checked all the while.

Okay, I had a look at the attached file. It came up blank in IE here, too.
Viewing the source code, it's trying to load and embed using JavaScript a
PDF file called AS_U1L01_Act.pdf. I take it you have Acrobat Reader
installed, and that file is also on the CD you mentioned?

The cd contains mostly pairs of .pdf and .html files like. In these cases, i
can just open the .pdf file and print it out
AS_U1L01_Act.pdf, 49 kb, acrobat 7 doc
AS_U1L01_Act.html, 1 kb, html doc

AS_U1L02_Act.pdf, 23 kb
AS_U1L02_Act..html 1 kb

AS_U1L03_Act.pdf, 33 kb
AS_U1L03_Act.html, 1 kb
etc.

But there are also files like the following which are just .html files, no
associated .pdf files.
AS_U1L04_Act.html 1 kb

AS_U1L05_Act.html, 1 kb
etc.
And this is where my problem is - i can't open and print out these two
files, AS_U1L04_Act and AS_U1L05_Act which are actually Activity Sheets
Lesson 4 and Lesson 5 because the cd does not have the files
AS_U1L04_Act.pdf and AS_U1L05_Act.pdf.

I suppose files like
AS_U1L04_Act.html, 1 kb
AS_U1L05_Act.html, 1 kb

are some sort of shortcut or link files (they are all 1 kb size). I am
puzzled why their associated .pdf files are left out in the cd while most
other worksheet files are given in .pdf and .html types.
