Can anyone help me?

My computer recently died on me, and so I've had to reinstall windows xp
onto another drive. The old hard drive is still working and in my computer,
I can access all the folders apart from My Documents, which just happens to
contain my vital GCSE coursework. i get the error message - "Access is
denied".

This is because my old documents folder was protected by the prevention of
file sharing thingy, and now it recognises my account as being another user/
an intruder.

Is there anything that I can do to get into this folder!? PLEASE HELP!!

This article describes how to take ownership of a file or folder
to which you have been denied access:

change permissions on the whole documents and settings folder giving you
full control then check the tab to apply to subfolders you might have to go
to the advanced tab. XP has many options for how the properties looks. It is
no big deal at all you can even do a backup and restore and tell it not to
keep file permissions to get around it!
