I have a Canon ip8500. I have enabled it to print on cd. Has worked =
fine for many months. Recently, I disconnected the printer for 3 months =
from the CPU. When I reconnected it, Windows xp (home) says it finds =
new unknown usb hardware. It will not let me install the printer driver =
(from the original Canon cd). The install start but aborts at the 60% =
level (registering printer, creating folder...). The same thing happens =
with the driver that I downloaded from Canon's site. I have gone into =
"printers and faxes" and deleted the printer. Is there some other =
driver file I need to delete before I can the printer driver =
re-installed? I'm stumped. Any help is apreciated.
This kind of situation usually gets more involved than this, but
before I make things too complicated, along with deleting the printer
in the Printers and Faxes window, you also need to go into File ->
Server Properties -> Drivers Tab and remove the driver itself. Try
doing that first. Otherwise it might require registry editing. You
should also check the Knowledge Base on Canon's website.
Also check that your cable is not damaged and that you're plugging it
into the same USB port - lately I've seen some USB devices that have
problems if you plug it into a different port than it was installed
on.
