HI

I have this printer and when I print a photo on plain paper the colors are
really poor. If I print on photo paper, they are ok. Anyone figure how to
print on plain paper?

First you need to be using Canon ink. Then you need to use photo
paper. Plain paper is not to print hi res photos. The best you can get
is an approximation of the content of the photo and some idea of the
color when using OEM ink.

Thanks for the reply. I use canon ink and photo paper. This works fine.
However, when using plain paper, there ought to be a way to print "proof"
prints.

Printing on plain paper with dye based inks will not give anywhere close
to a crisp image. The paper is rough and the ink bleeds before it can
dry. This happens whether you use Canon inks or compatible ink. You
can use matte type paper which it generally thicker than plain paper but
will provide a better image.

All I do is set the driver to plain paper and standard quality. I use
hammermil bright white inkjet paper and I can see a proof just fine.

I have not problem when using Hammermill Bright White Premium Inkjet
paper. It does not bleed and has not problem with drying. And of
course I use Canon OEM ink.
