Help! cannot run virus scan

Hi there, need some help with this one as its drives me mad! :?

I need to do a virus scan (Norton) in safe mode with system restor
off as I need to check for a trojan. But when I try and do a scan i
safe mode or with system restore off, my computer crashes an
re-starts. The scan runs fine when I'm in normal mode

Don't know what's up, hope someone can help

I can't really help with the Norton problem I dumped them a year ago and
haven't regretted it. However.... if you are looking for a Trojan then its
best to use a dedicated trojan scanner not and anti-virus program with some
modest trojan detection abilities.You can try this one for 30days free,

NOTE: Don't forget to download the latest detections for it which can be
