Please, Help!

In IE, Netscape, CuteFTP, Outlook Express I can not connect with any
server, neither by IP address, nor by name. However, if I enter the IP
address of a site in the "host" file, I can connect with this site.
So, I can connect only with the sites listed in my host file. The
program nslookup still works and can resolve host names.
It all happened 2 days ago, and I have no idea what caused it.
Everything worked fine until then, and I did not change anything.
If you have some suggestions, please, reply to my e-mail
(e-mail address removed).
Thank you,

Marina Sapir

This is weird, nslookup resolves names, but you can only connect if you make
the entry in your hosts file?
What else is in your hosts file?
Can you tell us any more about your configuration?
Run ipconfig /all > C:\ipconfig.txt
and net start > C:\services.txt
from a command prompt then paste that or attach them and post back.

Without typing in an explicit DNS Server to check?

If not, then this is a sign that you need to add the correct DNS
server to your machine's NIC properties. (Typically an INTERNAL
server ONLY if you have one.)

If you really can't resolve names from "other programs" but can
do so "from NSLookup" (without explicit reference) this
implies a bug, virus, or bad hosts file (REALLY bad hosts file.)

NSLookup is "just a program" except that it does it's own
resolution -- rather than use the built-in resolver used by
other programs.
