I cannot get the pointer to move.
I follow Logitech support suggestions, using the tab to go navigate the
Start Menu. I can only get to Control Pane | System. The tab will then go
left/right, but not up/down, so I never get to the device manager dialogue.

Everything else seems to work fine, even icq gets loaded and online, but of
course I cannot do anything because of no mouse or keyboard.

o/s Windows XP pro
Logitech optical mouse
Logitech iTouch keboard

Sorry being dumb, but which is the receiver button and how do I make sure
the USB port is active?
Both devices are not "cordless".

hmmm maybe I misunderstood the model Logitech itouch corded......thought I saw 'freedom' my bad. are they USB? do you have a ps2
mouse? if you can get to the device manager in safe mode and remove all keyboard and mice reboot.

A glimmer here..
Please tell me how to get to safe mode and what happens there. I've never
used safe mode before.

When the OS starts push, and keep pushed the F8 button.

Eventually the OS should give you a list of options, one of which is Safe
Mode

Choose this and wait.

When you get to the desktop try the following on the keyboard

<start> button
<up arrow) to setting
<side arrow> and then <down arrow> to Control Panel
<return>

You should now have Control Panel Open

Alternativley try <Tab> key until 'My Computer' is highlighted then
<alt>+<enter> to get the System Properties options

Use the <arrow> keys to get to Hardware and then <Tab> to get to Device
Manager

Press Enter

Tab the Arrows down to Mice and other Pointing devices

<right Arrow> to open, <down Arrow> to select Mouse.

You should have Logitech Compatible Mouse or similar. If you have more than
that then highlight the ones you do not have and press <Delete>

If you only have one or are unsure then delete them all.

<alt+F4> to close the window, Tab to the OK and press return then <Alt+F4>
to the shutdown screen and restart the computer.

Let it run and it should try and load a new mouse driver which hopefully
will be recognised.

If all that is a pain, then borrow a Mouse that works, delete all the Mouse
drivers as above and then shutdown and swap in your Mouse before restarting.

Hope this helps

Are they USB or PS2 parts? Or, put another way, do they have round
connectors or flat, rectangular connectors?

If the mouse and keyboard are connected to USB,
it is possible that reversing the USB connections will
cause the kind of problem the poster sees. Some BIOS
are not very smart about checking what is on the USB
ports. Why do I know this? It happened to me. Had to
use a serial mouse to get the BIOS unscrewed. Eventually
there was a BIOS update that fixed the problem. Perhaps
the OP will try the test and let us know what happens.

Always keep a junker serial mouse around, just in case :-(
