Help - Can not save to DV Camcorder

I'm pretty new on Movie Maker 2.1, but have been able to put a 33-minute
movie together that I'm now ready to save. I previously saved a short test
movie successfully, and even burned it to SVCD and DVD.

But now, since my movie is too complex, I can't save it to my computer - at
all - without dividing it into more manageable segments. I am desperately
hoping I can save back to my DV Camcorder, but...

MM is giving me an error saying that my camcorder is not connected to the
computer. It is connected through the IEEE 1394 cable, turned on and in
playback mode - and I can even capture video into MM - just not save from MM
to the camcorder. I'm not sure I understand why it works one way and not the
other?

Help please?!

Saving it back to your camcorder requires it first to save it to your hard
drive as a DV-AVI file, and then copy it from there.... if it's too complex
to do that, than the process to the camcorder won't work.

See the Problem Solving > Can't Save a Movie page of my website.

Hmmmmm....just a thought, but shouldn't
the camcorder be set on Record instead
of Playback?

I tried that, too - but everything I read said it needed to be in playback
mode. After reading PapaJohn's note, I now have to decide if I want to put
time into dividing up the movie I've created... or start a new one from
scratch using the new software I just purchased (Adobe Premiere/Photoshop
Elements package).

I really liked my MM movie. =(

No apologies please - I am open to any ideas to solve this. I even tried it
again after reading your post just to be doubly sure. I don't want to give
up yet!

Thanks!! =)

It's not hard to make lots of new projects from one very large one, so long
as you are careful.
Save the project as Project 1.
Save the project as project 2.
This gives you a full copy and a full copy that we will work from, in case
of mistakes. :)
Open P2, delete all items on the timeline after a certain point, say 15
minutes or at a convenient pause, transition, fade to black or whatever.
Save as Project 3.
Open P2 repeat above but delete all on the timeline that you save in P3, go
forward to a point again, and delete all past this point.
Save as Project 4.
Repeat until in nice small pieces.
Open up your small projects and save as dv-avi's
Maybe test P3 before making other projects to ensure you are breaking them
down small enough. This may vary depending on the complexity of the
individual segments.
