Hello
Running Windows ME

I am occasionally getting a message:

VIRUS LIKE ACTIVITY:
C:\windows\explore.exe is attempting
write to boot record of Drive C:

and then I have the option to accept, stop or continue.

Does anyone have any idea what is causing this?

Have you checked your BIOS settings? Some BIOS have a built-in check
for boot infectors. You can just disable it if you have antivirus
software set to check for boot infectors.

Its possible you have this trojan

or this worm

May be worth doing an online scan if you dont have an AV.

1. I don't think it is normal for explorer.exe to access the bootsector.
2. By the time explorer.exe is in a position to do anything, 'the bios' is no
longer active.
