Im running a kt600 A, with award bios 6.00pg, and I have an IDE 40gig
drive in place.

I want to add a Maxtor 6L200M0 to it.. Ive managed to format the thing.
My bios says the drive is there, in sata channel Zero. \

But I cannot get windows to recognize it.. How do I do that?

Ive just spent the last 5 hours trying to find some USER FRIENDLY
instructions on the internet, and ziltch.. Nothing.. (otherthan other
people complaining about it too).

Any help apprecated.

Blastmax booted from CD sees the drive.. Blastmax from windows does
not.

How were you able to format the drive? And does XP see the drive if you go
to Computer Management? If so, format the drive from there by
right-clicking on the drive and choosing Format.

Let us know if that helps!

I booted up from the maxblast 4.0 disk and partitioned the disk there.
as for formatting, unless that is another function, its not formatted
yet. Just partitioned into 2 100 gig sections.

then when I restart the computer, the Bios sees the drive, but XP does
not see it at all.

Like Jeff said. go to Disk management. drives should appear there. format by
rt clicking and chose format.

Start>Run>diskmgmt.msc

Drives will not appear in My computer or explorer until formatted.

There might be a driver need for the SATA controller. Check on the
manufacturer's web site for details.

As far as I've seen XP has no SATA native support. There should be a driver
that came with the MB

went to the ESC website and downloaded everything for this board.
Installed everything for this board.

Booted the maxtor blastmax CD and partionted the HD, and formatted it.
Rebooted windows..

HD stillshows up in bios, but not in windows.. very frustrating.

Do you have the manual for this board? If so look thru it. There should be
some instructions on installing the sata drivers. Most I've run into need to
be installed at the same time XP is installed, maybe just my experience. XP
is NT and it never much liked system drivers being installed after it was
running... rtfm

Help xp pro, kt600a ata 6L200M0 drive xp won't see the drive -solution.

Ok..my system had a maxtor 40g parallel ide drive. I wanted to add a
200gig sata drive. Bios saw the drive, but xp did not.

Heres how I solved the problem using 2 methods. The first method, is
for adding the new drive as additional storage. The 2nd one is to add
xp system to it.

1. I installed the new Sata drive, and booted my system, hitting Del at
startup to check bios settings, to ensure the sata option was
operating. -note, you may have to change your advanced bios settings
to boot from CDROM first, then HDD-0. Then I booted the maxblast disk
that came with the system. It saw the new SATA drive, and I proceeded
to partion and format the disk.

Then when done, I rebooted the system, under normal conditions and
while the bios saw the drive, XP did not. PRoblems problems, and
headaces. Whats the solution? I spend 3 deays on google looking for
answers that any one could follow. Nothing found. I found a lot of
people having the same problem.. so heres my solution that worked
today, 26 Nov 2005.

2. With both drives plugged in, went to maxtor and downloaded its ultra
sata drivers program, and made a floppy disk.
Thhen I booted on my xp disk, and hit f6, and let it install the maxtor
drivers. after that, the old drive, 40 gig, booted and xp saw the new
200 gig drive.

Now you can do this next part seperatly, if you are starting with a raw
system, or just want to add a windows boot section to the additional
drive.

3.THEN, to get the xp to install on the new drive, I went to
www.ecsusa.com and downloaded all the kt600 files.. I unzipped the
filed to my D drive, in its own folder, and Upon opening the readme
file, it told me how to create an xp insall disk, by copying over 2
folders and one file. the Raid and Pride folders, and txtsetup.oem.

I did that. and turned off the computer, unplugged the 40 gig drive,
and rebooted on xp setup.

At that point, I hit f6 again, and used the VIA startup disk, and
wala.. windows XP saw the 200 Gig hard drive.. I am proceeding to
install XP, sure glad I have a 2nd computer to post this info. Hope it
helps someone else, now that I have it figured out..
