Hi All,
When I try to open "help" I just get the message: Windows cannot open Help
and Support because a system service is not running. To fix this problem,
start the service named 'Help and Support'.

Can anyone help me please?

The reason I was trying to access 'Help and Support'is because my internet
explorer won't connect (unable to find page) once it has started? If you can
help with this problem also, I would be very grateful.

Many Thanks
Tim

Hopefully, you haven't deleted any svchost items.
You need administrator privileges for this procedure.

In Services, Help and Support should be marked as "automatic" and "started."
Also, it depends on Remote Procedure Call, so if RPC is not marked as
"automatic" and "started", then Help and Support will not work.

GoTo Start, Control Panel, Administrative tools, Services.
1. First, go down the list and select Remote Procedure Call (not RPC
Locater; that should be on Manual).. In your left pane read the RPC
definition. If not marked as automatic and started, that is why you're
having an internet problem. If it is not marked that way, double-click on
Remote Procedure Call.
2. Click on the dropdown arrow for Startup type and select 'automatic.' If
Service Status does not say 'started', click the 'start' button.
3. OK (and go to 4.)

If RPC was already marked as automatic and started:

4. Now go up the list and select Help and Support. Use the same 1.2.3.
procedure,

If you want to see a list of everything that depends on RPC, go back down to
RPC, double-click it, click on the Dependencies tab, and scroll the list in
the bottom window.

Tim, it's December, 2007 and Windows XP Pro Help and Support still has this
same problem. I find it amazing that Microsoft has known about this since
2005 but hasn't done anything about it.

DSG,

I have the correct settings you outlined below however in Services but my
Help & Support still doesn't connect. Something I noticed is that the Help &
Support Service is a Local Service but RPC is a Network Service. Would that
make any difference?

Thank you in advance for any help, Mike
