Hey guys, I compacted the NG messages following some info from here, and now
all I have are OLD messages left. How do I get the NEW MESSAGES to download
from the news servers???? I click and nothing NEW will download - just old
messages. Why did all the messages from the last 4 days VANISH???? How do
I get them back????

FS~

There must be a safer way to compact without LOSING all recent messages.
:*( I deleted/downloaded everything again.

One possibility is that the server's archive has been reorganized
so you need to Reset your local cache too. Unfortunately OE
is not capable of deducing this situation on its own.

How do
I get them back????

If you want to preserve the current markings copy the existing cache
to a local folder as an aid to duplicating the markings in the new cache.
E.g. select them all and use Copy to Folder... (press Ctrl-a, Alt-E,p)

Reset: right-click the newsgroup in the Folders bar, click Properties,
Local File, Reset

Then it depends on what you want to do. If you want *all* messages
or *all* headers use Synchronize Newsgroup (e.g. Alt-T,n...)

BTW I'm assuming that you will perform both of these operations from within
the newsgroup otherwise be aware that entering the newsgroup while
online would do an automatic Get next ___ headers which could result
in you be able to see fewer than all the messages without resorting to
Synchronize Newsgroup with All Messages (i.e. both headers and bodies).
Etc.
