our server was stolen,so built up new server exact same
build, added user accounts and the xp clients can log in
but doing it this way creats no computer accounts and
hence seciurity errors ect.I normally use the network
wizard to join new clients to the domain but that of
course creates a new user prophile no problem when new
PC,but we have 20+ client Pcs is there any way i can
correctly join these in to the domain again with out
having to re-set up there prophiles again ie outlook
internet e-mail accounts short-cuts etc.

Martin,

I will not comment on the server being stolen other than to say that I hope
from this point forward the server will be locked in a secure room ( and I
am not saying that it wasn't - but I have walked into too many companies
where the server is located under the secretary's desk! That has been the
case in a couple of situations ).

Unfortunately, there is no really slick way to do this other than to join
each computer to the domain. Have the user log onto the computer. Just
once! And do not let him/her do anything other than log on! Matter of
fact, it is better that you do this after hours. Just get their passwords
and let them know that they can change it if they do not like you knowing it
( shoot, when I worked in LA I had about 95% of the 300+ user passwords in
my head! Made things a lot easier when I had weekend work to do ).

Then, what you do is log on as either the local Administrator or a Domain
Admin. You can open up Windows Explorer and then copy the 'old' profile to
the 'new' profile. I have done this a couple of times and it works well.

There will always a be a few things that will not work so well. - a shortcut
here, a link there. You will just need to ask them for their patience and
to write this all down.

HTH,

Cary
