Good Evening Everyone

I hope you may help me.

How do I activate System Restore ? It doesn't load up when I select it from
Start Menu/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore ?

Is it safe to delete Service Pack 1 + 2 from Add/Remove programs if I am now
using Service Pack 3 ? I want to clear anything out I don't need.

And lastly (and I hope not too cheeky asking 3 questions at once)

What is the best way to save files from PC as I would like to transfer a lot
of music/photo's/info to new PC when I get one ?

I currently have Windows XP Home Edition 2002, Service Pack 3. I will more
than likely get new PC with Vista.

Regards,

Any help or advice much appreciated :-)

Turning on System Restore in a standard installation of WinXP has
two steps:
1. There is a basic on/off switch in one panel of the My Computer /
Properties.
2. Appropriate "services" must be loaded and running: for detail see
/Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services.
(You probably need to have Administrator status to reconfigure these.)

Experienced users would probably recommend Vista only if you know
it allows you to do something you want to do that WinXP does not
enable. Be advised that some Vista tools (notably for email) are
not compatible with WinXP (i.e. you cannot simply import your
Outlook Express old emails onto a Vista PC.)

The safest way to transport data files is probably to via writing them to
CD (which leaves you with a duplicate on CD after you have copied
the old data into the new PC.) You can automate the process via
various tools. I use and recommend XXCOPY from www.xxcopy.com.

To transfer files I would buy an external drive enclosure and put the
drive from the old computer in it. Plug it in and your good to go. Once
you have all of the data you want you can re format the old drive and
use it for storage.
