Help 1394 network extremly slow

Hi, I have two computers connected with 1394 firewire. The connection works,
but are extremly slow. 50 Mb takes 13 min. Both use XP-Pro with all
updates.Laptop 1.8 GHz,512 Mbram and 1394 on motherboard.Desktop 2.7MHz 1Gb
ram also on motherboard.When looking at the status page for the connection
it shows ca 61 packages per sec to recieving computer.Any help?

Hi, what do you connect to the internet on? Ny caBLE lan
Comes in at about 100 mbs andI only log dropped packets.
My cable tech told me that for networking the 1394
connection is for pocket pc's although I dont have any
firewire drive's attached now. I have an external one that
I've never had reason to clock. Are yours bridged? If so
delete that and see.

The bridge is there but deactivated.The cable for the old NIC is
disconneccted.the 1394 cable is the one I use for my video,with six cords
