We've all experienced the frustration of poor tech support. Well C-net
has a story that will bring up old memories of Norton. This should be a
cautionary tale for the unwary.

Why does PC support stink? Ask Symantec

Quote from the above article:

"It's politically correct to say Microsoft is too big and Windows
should be reined in. But might consumers be better off if all the
antivirus technology they need came free of charge, as part of the
operating system? We'll soon find out, because that's the direction
Microsoft is heading. Truth be told, after this latest go-around with
Symantec, I can't wait."

Yeah, and they'll put most of the AV companines out of business by
making sure the AVs of those companies do not work "too well" with
Windows or any MS product.

C'mon, kiddies, we've been there before with this outfit. Gawd help us
if they do start including an AV in their product, because as tech-
ignorant as I am, it will then be time to go Linux for sure.

Sometimes I really wonder who is writing all those viruses and trojans.
Sure, it is all those underemployed geniuses in Blatovia.

After having used Norton AV/IS for years I have finally realized that
their products are shit and switched to PC-Cillin Internet Security
2005. Don't get me wrong, NAV/NIS provide good protection when they
work, but they can act up and be a real pain in the ass.. stop
working, stop being able to get updates, screwing up computers when
you uninstall, etc. I recently rebooted and protection was disabled (I
didn't change a thing), tried to enable protection, got error
messages, followed the lame instructions on their site I was directed
to, didn't work. Sent them a nasty comment, uninstalled NIS 2005,
Installed PC-Cillin and now all is well.
It used to be that Symantec charged $9.95 for another year of
subscriptions for NAV. Now they charge $24.95. The reason is not
because they want to charge more, but because they want to discourage
you into buying their more expensive products - Norton Internet
Security, or Systemworks. How's that for marketing? I say screw 'em.
Want phone help? be prepared to pay WAY too much in advance for long
hold times and useless advice from cretins.
Symantec has lost me forever and I advise my clients against using
their software as well now.

PC-Cillin or F-Secure are the best IMO, and AVG Free is great for
anyone.

Hope this helps somebody,

~Peace

Sounds like you need to put a few more layers of aluminum foil on your
hat.
