Lets see where to start,

well about a week ago i installed Office XP onto my work
computer, because the office 2000 that we had was not
completely installed and was therefore fairly useless (my
workplace likes to install things and not keep track of
the CD's).

So i install OXP and everthing works fine until i go into
Oulook my my bosses request and well, the trouble starts
here.

List of problems:

1. it screws with the keys i press on the keyboard. eg. i
get "q" when "a" ia pressed, x when w is pressed, and so
on for roughly 10-12 keys.

2. any text i enter into the calendar vanishes without a
trace as soon as i either click away or press enter to
have it take effect.

3. a complete inability to install service packs.

4. no matter what i do, be it reinstalling, system
restore to see if the problems occured in the registry,
and just general screwing around with anything that seems
relevant, nothing works, and in the end the problems
persist or more problems are created (i got screens
saying that the some DLL file could not be found
rendering outlok useless in entirety). I've even
contacted various technicians, each of whom have never
encoutered this problem, with no headway.

so what do i do, i've spent over 12 hours trying to fix
this stupid thing and nothing... nadda. so if you've ever
heard of this or if you have any ideas as to how to fix
it. I'm willing to try anything.

thanks for your time.

My first guess would be a damaged hard drive or windows installation when it
comes to dll and registry errors. Try running a consistency check or
defragmentation if you don't want to reinstall. Especially with the
inability to install service packs it would lead me to think that the hard
drive is not large enough or it is damaged.

As for the keys, I'm sure you've tried changing out the keyboard? Damaged
input devices can cause many problems as well.

Hope this helps,

Good suggestions so far but yes, i've tried them all.
From switching out the keyboard to reinstalling office
2000. One thing i cannot do is reinstall Win XP, or just
do a complete wipe of the harddrive, cause like i said
noone around here, before i came, kept track of the
software (namely Windows XP). so it's somewhat of an
impossibility for me at the moment (and as my job here
ends at the end of the month, there won't be time later
on)

the one that i didn't really consider was a faulty
harddrive, i didn't consider it because i've not had any
problems downloading files of any sort until having to
install this one. But just to be sure i'll be running
scandisk and Defrag today, i'll let you know if that's
the problem.
