comp is acting weird. this is whats happening....
i switch on the comp, goes thru POST and all that no problem. when it gets
to "starting windows xp", i get a message comming up saying "no signal" the
screen is just black, i can hear windows booting up but i cant see anything
apart from a black screen. if i start the machine. press F8, and go to
"enable vga mode", the comp starts up but the desktop is stuck on 640*480.
if i try to change it, the screen goes black and i get the "no signal"
message again. safe mode boots up at the right resolution though, and i
havent installed / uninstalled anything lately. any ideas?
oh, and p.s.
before i used get to POST , some text appeared saying "nvidia corp.
copyright 2001" and under that it said "64 mb ram", now though, i miss the
first three letters of each sentence - as if the screen is operating at
640*480. POST looks normal though.
im stumped.

cheers

Sounds as though you have a problem with your vid card, or, more likely, the
driver.

Sounds like a vid card problem. Try removing it and re-inserting making
sure it is firmly in place. Check the lead to the monitor is securely
connected at both ends.
If you have updated your nVidia drivers recently, did you uninstall the
old version first? nVidia drivers are prone to weird behaviour like
that.
If you can get an image in Safe Mode, although it won't install the
nVidia drivers you can uninstall them, reboot with standard VGA mode and
install the drivers again.

I've had the same problem a couple of times and put it down to the mobo
and the rear panel not being square so when you tighten the back panel
fixing screw it tries to pull the vid card out of its socket, so make
sure it isn't screwed in too tight :)
