Hey,

I'm just getting a new processor (one of the Athlon 64 Dualcores, not sure which yet), and was wondering if its cheaper to buy a seperate heatsink, or whether to get the version that comes with. If seperate is the best option, which heatsinks should I be looking at, I've never really studied them in much detail.

Also any clues on where the cheapest S939 64 X2's can be found would be appreciated.

Ta very much.

The stock cooler that comes with it seems to do a pretty good job from my experience - I been running 3 X2 3800's 24/7 crunching with 100% CPU usage without problem now for many months, including through the summer.

Obviously there are better coolers out there - but it really depends on what you are going to be using it for - if overclocking then an aftermarket cooler would probably be wise :thumb:

939 X2's are getting pretty thin on the ground these days - so that price at Ebuyer won't be much cheaper anywhere else, its cheaper than OverclockersUK - try googling....

If your going retail and not overclocking, I would stick with the stock cooler - if OEM or overclocking, then something like the Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro, or Zalman CNPS7700 will do fine :thumb:

I suppose it depends on how much you want to spend now really - if the X2 3800 gives you what you need right now then why not spend £80 on that, then consider a bigger upgrade a year or so down the line, when you will probably need new DDR2 ram as well as a mobo etc?

CPU's are changing fast - Intel Conroes are the best around at the moment, but a year from now? - who knows?
