Why are the reset and soft power headers on this pc not playing ball.
Its a biostar m7vkd motherboard, the soft power button powers on the pc but
will not power down, I have changed the bios settings from 4 sec delay to
instant off and neither option works, I know you shouldnt turn a pc off like
this anyway but I have come to notice it because the reset button does
nothing at all either.
Any help appreciated.

Its a biostar m7vkd motherboard,

Because it's a Biostar motherboard?
Because you're using an insufficient power supply?
Because the BIOS is buggy?

the soft power button powers on the pc but
will not power down,

Does it make a valiant attempt at it, like resetting or crashing, or just
(nothing) no response?

Are you 100% sure you have the connectors on the correct pins?
Are you 100% sure the manual and/or motherboard has the pin diagram
correct, not a misprint or other error? At the very least the reset
should reset unless you have the wrong pins connected.

Can you use a multimeter or (other continuity meter) to verify that the
wires to the switches are intact and the switches work properly?

How about if you just disconnect the switches and use something small,
metal, to short the two pins together?
